Differences between Internet version and printed version the Guardian

The fact that modern technologie change media, firs of all, version of newspapers storage medium is changed. More and more people prefer read Internet version of newspapers, because they have more opportunities than their older versions. In this article I want to parse what’s the main differentes between new media and old on the Gardian’s example.

Immediacy

I pretty sure that the main difference between the Internet version of the Guardian and newspaper is the speed with which news are published. You can read news on the Gurdian’s website immediately, as soon as events are happend they are on the website, in contrast, the Guardian newspaper contents news, which were happend yesterday or for long time ago.

Multi-media

Multimedia resources  of The Internet version of the Guardian outweigh the newspaper version, in last one you can just find advertising flyers and that is all multimedia in printed version of the Guardian. While the Internet version allows to readers listen broadcast or watch video reports, this fact makes the process of reading more and more interesting.

Interaction

The big benefit of using the internet version of the Guardian is opportunity to share opinions and thoughts with other readers. The system of comments allows you to do this. The process reading become something more than just reading, it likes a big social networking. People feel immersed it epicentre of events and they feel opportunity to speak or express and affect on current affairs.

Selection

You can use RSS feeds and alerts to follow interesting news for you or monitor stories. You can always be in the center of news and you do not have to pay any effort to do so, technologies just do it for you.

Payment

If you read every day read the Guardian, the reading the Internet version is the cheapest way to you. You can safe your money, because the Internet version of the Guarding is free. Instead you get interactivity and opportunities of using multimedia. Benefit is obvious.

My response to Malcolm Gladwell’s article

Media are changed with developing in communication technologies. First of all, people could not imagine 50 years ago that they might read or watch news in live. Events are published as soon as then happen, lag in time is too short, but news had became to audience for a long time (hours, days, weeks) in the past. Therefore people can reaction immediately in our days.

On the other hand, new technologies help to cooperation people, revolutions in islamic world are well illustrated this opportunity of modern technologies which are used by mass media, but sometimes this fact can lead to bad consequences. I know about good case of using modern technologies by one Canadian corporation, which produces gold. This company could not explore new deposit of gold and management of this company created web-site, where they uploaded all maps and all information about old and possible deposit of gold in area, which nearest the location of this company, and than they invented different freelancers, which could solve this problem.  Thousands of scientists and students were responded, because it was very interesting for their, They could see and read inside reports and maps and other staff, what can be in free access seldom, and this people could had done it, they found a new deposit of gold, and company solved this problem. This case is very significant, it show how we might use modern technologies to develop our world.

I totally agree with Malcolm Gladwell, media is changed significant by modern technologies, but I hope we wil use this opportunity for the benefit of society and world in general.

The Seven Basic Plots of “The Fisherman and the Goldfish”

I am from Russia and we have a traditional fairy-tail which called “The Fisherman and The Goldfish”, every child know this story. This fairy-fail was written by Aleksander Pushkin approximately at the beging of 19th century. This story is about how the old man which like like fishing, unce he has caught the goldfish and this fish was not a trivial fish, it had a magic power. The fish suggested to the old man, if he will let go the fish, the goldfish promised him to perform any his three wishes. This is a short summarise of this story.

Let describe this story in details with orienting on the seven basic plots.

Overcoming the Monster

I guess the fisherman’s wife is the monster in this story. When the fisherman made a deal with the goldfish, he was going to his wife an once, because the fisherman did’t need anything, he was modest man, which wanted to give than he can to his wife. When he said about the goldfish and three wishes his wife, she was very happy. First of all, she asked him about new though. The fisherman came to the goldfish and received new trough, this was first wish. His wife took this trough and she thought “It was a extremely simple wish, I should ask about something more difficult”, she asked a new house. Her desire was growing as their performances, andin the end she said to the fisherman “If all my wishes are to simple for this gold fish, i want to be a queen of this seas”. He came to the goldfish and said to he/she about the last wish of his wife. The goldfish did not like this wish, it was too mach, the goldfish was very angry and all wishes had been cancelled.

My point, the wife of fishermen is shown like embodiment of greed and this sin is a monster .

Rags to Riches

The fisherman’s wife was going from poverty to wealth, but she could not live like a rich people. She was spoiled by money.

The Quest

In this case, I suppose, the quest is how to fight with greed and fisherman’s wife has not done it.

Voyage and Return

I think the voyage in this story is way from property to wealthy, but the main problem is that the fisherman’s wife could not stay on top of the hill and she has been dropped on to the property again.

Comedy and Tragedy

On the one hand, comedian aspect of this story is people’s damb andgreediness, it is very funny to see that people’s life was damaged by their greed. But, on the other hand, this fact is too tragically, because sometimes people do not know measure in their wishes and their lives or lives of other people can be destructed by ignorance.

Compare The Times and The Sunday Times

The Times and The Sunday Times are not similar newspapers. First of all, the publisher of this newspapers have a different goals and audience.

The Times like the Guardian, this newspaper has a left-side audience. The most part of content is news about politics, economics and finance, because The TImes is oriented on business people and government emploies. This publication has not got much advertisement, only specific advertisement about business events, financial services in that the main way for capitalisation of this newspaper is paid for subscription, because it’s very important tool in every weekday life for business people.

Writers and authors of The Times’s articles use only formal and official style, sometimes science, the typical housewife does not read this newspaper, because content and style of this newspaper is designed for business people.

The Sunday Times use simple and clear language, because this newspaper is designed for take fun from reading. The Sunday Times’s authors also write about interesting but not importan events in our live. The name of this newspaper tells us ‘this just weekend reading for relaxing’.

Audi 4Ps

Image

Audi and its subsidiaries design, engineer, manufacture and distribute automobiles and motorcycles under the Audi, Ducati and Lamborghini brands. Audi oversees worldwide operations from its headquarters inIngolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. Audi-branded vehicles are produced in seven production facilities worldwide; Ducati and Lamborghini each have one production facility located in Italy.

In this case, we speak only about Audi brand and cars which produce at this brand.

Product

Audi produce only high-tech, modern, high quality cars. Audi has slogan “Truth of engineering”, what means all goods of this company must be on high level of all area technologies such as ecology, safety, comfortable and economy. Really, Audi’s cars comply with the slogan.

Price

Audi’s cars have average price in the market, but this is the case of balance between price and quality. For example, Mercedes-Benz’s cars are much more expensive than Audi’s cars, but they have the same quality. I think the price of Audi’s cars oriented on middle-class and target audience are mens, because Audi’s cars are brutal.

Promotion

Clearly, the best way for promotion cars is racing, because everybody want to have race car in everyday life, especially mans feel a lack in adrenaline. And racing is the best way to show customers that your car better, faster etc.

Also, Audi promote their cars in films, for choice in films, which have many pursuit and racing.

The last type of Audi’s cars promotion is advertising in men’s magazines.

Place

Audi has many show-rooms in a different areas of big cities.

P.S Audi vs BMW. Audi has promotion battle with BMW. Some examples of their resistance you can see below

Semiotik analysis of GQ’s cover page

Aside

GQ (originally Gentlemen’s Quarterly) is an American monthly men’s magazine focusing on fashion, films, fitness, cars, technology, books etc.

First of all, every GQ’s cover page include photo of a famous man. I think this photo stimulates sales, because everybody want to resemble to successful and famous person and men do not exclude. For example, we see Daniel Craig in this cover. This actor symbolises sexuality, courage, successful and strength. Every man want to enjoy this set of merit and they will buy this magasine to close to this ideal.

Secondly, most of people are interested in famous people’s lives. Cover page with picture of a famous man is of interest and this fact stimulate sales too.

GQ’s cover page says the following. Readers of this magazine are middled-age men, whose receives an upper-average salary. This men are purposeful, brilliant, bright and they know their value.

I think this is the best men’s magazine 🙂
